Entering a New Era of Gadgetry

So I realize that all anyone is talking about lately is the iPhone - experiences with buying it, activating it, problems with it, how wonderful it is, add-ons, plug-ins, accessories, tips & tricks, etc etc etc.

WHATEVER! Talk to me when the 2nd generation comes out (although I have seen it here in the TG offices and it's pretty sweet looking). I have been far too busy upgrading my own gadgetry to even be phased by the 'iPhone.' You see, my hot pink Motorola SLVR L7 went swimming with me in a hotel pool this past weekend (it was a wedding, things got out of hand..) Try as I did to dry it out, it wasn't happening (or maybe I just really wanted to upgrade)... so I entered the world of Blackberry with the Curve and I looooooove it. I feel like one of those people that never gets off their phone again - the exact reason I went back to "just a phone" a year ago. Sure it's a leash, and sure it's addicting, but I absolutely love it. The design is amazing, it's so sleek and skinny, and it's very lightweight. Plus it's more attractive than the other Blackberries because it's all shiney and silver.

Secondly, I went bobbing for Apple. (Hahaha, I know that sounds stupid, I just really wanted to say it). Yes, I may be boycotting the iPhone for the moment, but that doesn't mean I can't be a Mac user. I didn't get the new & improved Macbook Pro, but I did get the white Macbook with the 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I also duped them into thinking I'm still a student, so I got a free iPod too (4GB, electric blue, in case you were wondering) - which is handy since I just recently lost my prehistoric white nano. I thought I wouldn't be able to handle a 13" screen, but it's not bad at all.

So for the past week I've been busy installing, playing, toying with, learning, and of course, enjoying, my new stuff. The best part about all of this is that I'm going to need new accessories to go with everything so I get to go shopping. It's times like these I'm glad I write a blog about this stuff, because I already know exactly what I want.

Thank you, and goodnight!

Roxy Portable Speakers are Cute and Compact

While browsing for accessories I came across this interesting and adorable set of speakers. They're made by Roxy (the chick surfing company) for use with iPods. Just zip it open, plug in your iPod, and get quality sound wherever you may be. It's pretty handy for traveling or for taking it with you somewhere (think beach) or even just using it at home because it's pretty.

It's got a hard outer case with colorful polka dots all over it and a special little place to store your earbuds. Plus, it's only $100.

King Midas Would Be Proud.. Gold Coated X-Pointer

Ok, the next time you've completely spaced out and forgotten about that big presentation you have to give in 5 minutes - have no fear! Whip up something quick & dirty and then dazzle your colleagues with this 18-karat-gold-plated X-Pointer from Chois Technology, they will be so distracted by your lustrous laser pointing they won't even be looking at the screen.

The beautiful golden instrument you are using to conduct the presentation comes equipped with slide controls, a laser pointer, and wireless mouse functionality. But that's not all, you'll also be getting a 1GB Gold Coated USB drive to match. All this can be yours for only $215.

Let's be honest - shiny objects are more interesting than charts, graphs and 'points of interest' in a boring PowerPoint presentation.

Eubiq Electricity Track - Move Your Stuff Around With Ease

How many times have you been forced to arrange your kitchen, bedroom, living room (any room really), based on where the electrical sockets are? And how about those rooms that only have TWO? I mean, this is 2007, surely we have more than 4 uses for an electrical socket. And power strips are not the most attractive (or safe) option.

Not that this is necessarily "attractive," but it sure is a novel solution. Once you install Eubiq's electricity-supplying tracks in your room of choice, simply plug your appliances into the corresponding plugs and move your junk around with ease. The tracks are available in lengths up to 3.6 meters, and can be wired with a voltage of 110V or 230V.

Made in Singapore but available internationally, this system is especially helpful in office environments.

Defend Yourself in Style with a Pink Taser

That's right, there's nothing like a taser to stop a hoodlum from roughing you up or robbing you blind. Shock the hell out of that criminal with a PINK Taser - just announced today (along with boring black, silver, and blue ones) at the 2007 Taser Conference in Chicago (who knew there was such a thing?)

Each cellphone-sized unit is about $300.

pinktaser.jpg

The company's co-founders also announced the XREP, a Taser bullet. Yes, a bullet. When shot from a regular 7-round shotgun, the frontal electrodes in the nose of the device penetrate the skin and "causes a certain amount of pain" - just enough, in fact, to make the recipient try and remove the bullet with their hand - in which they will recieve a complimentary shock to their system that completely locks down your hand so you cannot let go. At the same time, 3 ft copper wires with multiple spiked electrodes shoot out of the back of the bullet after impact, with the sole purpose of causing more pain in different parts of your body. Wicked! Each device is $99 and will be available sometime in 2008.

Puma Laptop Bags Look Hot, Don't Break the Bank

Everything Puma is hot, but these laptop bags are oh-so-fresh. It's just the right combination of pretty and sporty, and it isn't so girly that you are nauseous everytime you look at it (think, flowers, rainbows & butterflies). They come in black, blue, red, and pink.

I know I'm usually all about the pink, but I'm really digging the bright blue one this time. Oh, they're only $20, which is unheard of for a laptop bag, especially a brand name one. Maybe it's junk, but at least it's good-looking junk.

Oooh and Ahhh over Sony's New VAIO CR Series

I have to give Sony props on their new line of laptops. The VAIO CR Series presents sleek and sexy laptops with a 14.1" widescreen LCD screen and are dressed to the nines in cute little outfits (meaning, they come in blue, pink, red and white).

But we're not all about looks here - this machine is beautiful on the inside, too - it comes preloaded with Vista Premium and Photoshop Elements. But why would it give you Photoshop for free? Why to edit the gorgeous pictures of yourself that you'll be snapping with the 1.3mpx camera built into the screen! (Could it be Sony's answer to the iSight?) Or, take advantage of that camera in other ways by burning videos of yourself with the DVD Burner. It's powered by Intel's Centrino Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz T7100 processor (Intel Santa Rosa).

If they haven't sold you already, maybe you'll be interested in the fact that it comes with a matching slip cover and mouse. Awwwww. The CR Series will be available in mid-July and start at about $1,350.

Express Yourself Artistically... with a Sideways Bike?

Some people just always have to be different! Whatever, this thing is cool. It's a sideways bicycle, created by inventor Michael Killian, and unlike your typical front-facing bike, this is balanced by human front & back balancing techniques. Supposedly this gives you more artistic expression, similar to snowboarding vs. skiing. For more information on the technology behind the bicycle, visit Michael's website.

But I'll let you be your own judge! Need a demonstration?

That Michael Killian... "so hot right now."

Let's Get Physical: Nintendo WiiFit and Balance Board

This could be good news or bad news, depending on how you look at it. On one hand, you no longer have to trek out in the freezing cold or drive to the gym. On the other hand, you no longer have an excuse not to go to the gym!

Nintendo announced it's WiiFit program yesterday at the 2007 E3 Conference. The software, integrated with the Wii Balance Board, interacts wirelessly with the console to provide a full fitness experience. And by full fitness experience I mean stretching, aerobic activity, sports, etc. The square shaped board not only measures body weight, body balance and balance shifts, it also has the ability to track your progress in a graphical chart.

Bonus: Nintendo also announced that they plan on integrating the board into games to create the "ultimate interactive experience."

wiifit.jpg

So let me get this straight, I can get a full body workout in my living room using a video game? I mean, the Wii Sports Boxing & Tennis already kills my arms, but this sounds like something that could really catch on. I'm thinking of all you Moms out there whos kids made them buy the Wii and have long since forgotten about it.

Legend of Zelda Fans Rejoice and Wear Your Love

It doesn't get any nerdier than a Legends of Zelda Map belt. By sporting this belt you'll have the attention of every old school Nintendo gaming fan within a 50 ft radius. Actually, I think you could probably get away with wearing this and calling it hip, as long as you don't pair it with velcro sneakers.

It can be yours to own for only $20 at NerdyShirt.com.

Match your EarBuds to.... Well, Anything

Are you the type of person who cares more about what your stuff looks like than how well it actually works? Well, you seem to be in the right place. (Just kidding, I care about quality too I promise.)

But just in case, I've got a real gem here. Novelty earbuds in a variety of colors and prints from Stylez Earphones. Who knows how well they work or if they even last longer than a month, but with this many colors to choose from, you can afford to buy a whole bunch and match them to your outfits.

stylzearphones.jpg

Unfortunately, they aren't even available in the US yet, but don't let that tear you apart from owning your very own cow-print earbuds. There are a bunch of online stores listed on their website that you can purchase from.
