Western Digital Goes on a Diet: Super Slim External HDDs

These skinny new external drives from Western Digital are the hotness. They'd be even better if they came in prettier colors, but I'll take what I can get. The WD Passport Portables (WDXMSC2500) are plug n play drives that are suitable for both Mac & PC, have 250GB of storage, and only weigh a few ounces. No power supply needed, they are powered by the USB bus. Available in metallic red, vibrant green(aka slime green), glossy black and white, and all for $199. Or, go with the 120GB or 160GB version for less.

250GB - that's 71,000 photos, 62,000 MP3s, or 100 hours of DVD quality video. That's a whole lotta stuff to carry around in such a tiny little thing.

A $25,000 Ferrari. No, Really!

It's not everyday you can justify spending $25,000 on a cell phone. Come to think of it, can you justify that... ever??? Regardless, Vertu (luxury unit of Nokia) has collaborated with Ferrari once again to give us one of the most outrageously expensive luxury mobile phones in the history of the world: the Ascent Ferrari 60.

vertuascentferrari60ofc.jpg

But what exactly is so fancy about this phone? At first glance, it doesn't appear to be that remarkable, besides the very obvious Ferrari logo. However, it is made of titanium and uses the same screws as used on Ferrari automobiles, as well as the same leather used on the seats of the car. Umm that still isn't worth 25,000 bones. Scarcity is certainly one factor in pricing, as there are only 60 of them being manufactured. Plus you're gonna have to travel to London, Paris, Hong Kong or Singapore if you want it.

Don't bother with this phone if you are concerned with technology, however, because that's not what Vertu is about. It's got the basics - tri-band phone with bluetooth, voice dialing, GPRS, MMS and SMS. Beyond that.... eh. Nada. It's got nothing!! It's the Paris Hilton of cell phones.... worth a lot of money, but empty on the inside. Zing!

It's Here! The BlackBerry Pearl v.2 (aka the 8130)

It's about freaking time! It's been talked about & speculated about for months now, but this morning, RIM announced it's latest - the 8130, or BlackBerry Pearl 2.

The upgraded version of the uber popular smartphone supports 3G internet access, has GPS with Blackberry Maps, A2DP Bluetooth, 2mpx camera, a noise-cancellation feature on the microphone, SureType word completion, and weighs just a few ounces. The e-mail program and browser have been upgraded, as well - producing 'full page view mode.'

So it's tiny and packed full of features, but how does it look? Similar to version 1, but a bit sleeker, and is now available in amethyst-black or silver.

Skullcandy mp3 Watch Stores 1GB

This Bully mp3 watch from Skullcandy is pretty effing gorgeous. Aside from looks, it's got 1GB of memory, is waterproof up to 100 ft, has a voice recorder, and it's inlaid with DIAMONDS. Hot. It's got a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal surface as well.

It's only $199, so the "diamonds" are most likely CZ, because the website doesn't specify. They do mention that it is "bling that stings!" Hahahahaha......... sold!

Who actually uses an mp3 watch? Anyone, anyone?

Rotating USB Hub Is Practical and Colorful

This thing could come in handy if you are one of those people who have 18 USB-powered devices plugged in at once. Or, 4, because that's how many additional ports you are going to get from this. I'm more the type that has 20 extension cords plugged into one other, stretched across the room, since my ancient apartment has a total of 4 electric sockets. Safe, I know.

It's cute, sort of kiddy looking, but the key here is the first two ports that rotate 180 degrees so you can accommodate different cords/drives/devices. Aluminum case body, Plug & play, and extremely light.

It's a total bargain at $16 from USB Brando.

Verizon's Take on the iPhone: The LG Voyager

Verizon Wireless announced today a series of new holiday phones. Among the bunch (which includes the new BlackBerry Pearl 8130) is the aptly named Voyager, by LG.

The Voyager looks strikingly similar to the iPhone, and it's no surprise, considering the huge amount of success Apple has encountered with the trendy touch screen technology. One benefit the Voyager has over the iPhone is the flip-down QWERTY keyboard, making it easier for those who have trouble with the tiny touch-screen keyboard. It also has a secondary screen for e-mail, texting, and games. The Voyager supports V CAST TV for live digital TV viewing and stores as much as 8GB of media on a microSDHC card, and has a 2megapixel camera.

All of the new phones from Verizon will be in stores by Thanksgiving... just in time for holiday shopping! No word on price yet.

Microsoft Zune 2.0 Features Wireless Syncing With Your PC

Wow! Such a big week for gadget releases. Not only did Verizon announce the Blackberry 8130 and the LG Voyager, but Microsoft is giving us a sneak peek at the new and improved Zune.

zune_new_range.jpg

New features for the 80GB Zune include touch-sensitive navigation, 3.2" screen, FM-tuner, and Wi-Fi syncing. In addition, there are upgrades to the Zune Marketplace (new videos, podcasts, over 1 million DRM-free MP3s) and a new community, Zune Social, which allows you to create a profile showing your favorite music and allows your friends to sample the tunes themselves.

The 80GB model is going for $249.99, with less expensive options in the flash-memory Zunes in 4GB and 8GB. They are available in a variety of colors, and you can guess my favorite. It looks pretty nice.

So what's on your wish list? The new Zune or the new iPod Touch?

Just in time for the holiday shopping season, Sony announced it's newest addition to the Cyber-shot family - the DSC-52. It's got 4GB of internal memory and holds around 40,000 pics. FORTY THOUSAND! That means you don't need to mess around with crummy memory cards, although if you choose to, you can still use them. Other fabulous features include a 2.7" touchscreen, in-camera organization system, editing featurs, face-detection, smile shutter and loads of other extras.

It's not too bad looking, it's got a sleek design with minimal buttons cluttering up the body. And it's available in some shnazzy bright colors like pink, blue and green. Keep an eye out - it should hit stores in Dec and is priced at $350.
