Help! I'm Surrounded by Ugly Hardware!

The age of technology is upon us, and the girls want to play, too!   But why should we compromise our feminity for the sake of functionality?  No doubt about it, it's a woman's world out there, just ask any man.  So why in the world all the hot new products on the shelves are so incredibly dull and boring looking, well your guess is as good as mine.

For years now I've worked in the IT field, with men & their gadgets.  I grew up in a house full of boys.  I'm used to being one of the only girls, and rather than becoming a tomboy, it's always made me feel even more like a lady.  One look at me and you can tell, I'm a girly girl.  I like cats, shopping, make-up, shoes, shiny things, and of course, the color pink.  However, I also understand the mentality of a man.  'Functionality over appearance', 'Who cares what it looks like, as long as it works', 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it', right?   I get it.  Along the same lines of "you don't need to put on make-up to go to the movies - it's going to be dark in there anyway, no one will see you!"  But can we try just a little here?  I'm not talking bows & glitter, either (although I might prefer a pink hard drive over a grey one...)

Case in point - Bravo, Motorola!  When it came time to upgrade my cell phone last fall, I opted for the Hot Pink SLVR rather than the mundane silver or black.  Everytime I answer my phone, it's a little burst of sunshine in my day.  And it sure makes it a lot easier to find in this monster of a handbag, too.  Cell phones and mp3 players are probably the one area of technology that are finally "getting it."  Brand names aside, virtually anyone can find a variety of colors & styles to suit their personality.

mot_slvr_pink.jpg Around here, I need all the sunshine I can get.  It's a pure joy working at Tom's Hardware Guide, as any techno buff would imagine.  But the scenery?  It's looking grim.   Stacks & stacks of boxy grey and black objects.

So no matter who you are or what you're into, a little bit of color never hurt anyone.  And if that color so happens to be pink?  Hats off to you, my good man!  Variety is the spice of life...

Dude, where's my car?

Everyone remembers that one episode of Seinfeld where they all get lost in the parking garage and can't remember where they parked the car. Sure would have been handy to have one of these little guys: icdu50.jpg What is that little doohickey? It's Sony's Voice Plus All-In-One Digital Voice Recorder Solution.  I may only be 24, but my memory is already fading.  This would be pretty darn useful for remembering where I parked my car, directions, or a recipe. The little USB-powered guy not only serves as an mp3 player, complete with headphones, and a 256MB Flash Drive, but records up to 20 hours of audio. So the next time you're pretending to be listening (but really sleeping) to one of your boss' lengthy meetings slash lectures..... bingo. All that and it tells the time. What else could you ask for? The color is pretty, too, which is reason enough for me!

Shiver Me Timbers

Riddle me this - it's February (which is winter, if my sources are accurate), cold enough to wear a scarf & coat outside (even in Los Angeles) - so why in the heck is our AC blasting??  Was the entire office staff - sans me - born with an extra layer of skin?   And this is during the winter... forget the summer, when you want to wear your cute outfits.  Bring out the Ugg boots, people - it's freaking cold in here!

So I'm adding these to my "Things I Need" list:

usbl0600.jpg USB Heated Gloves.  Perpetual Kid, you must have read my mind.

If only they had

a) a wider variety of colors
b) a USB Heated body suit.

Back Up in Style - Gorgeous Pink Hard Drives

Backing up your data is necessary no matter who you are or what you're doing (and I'm sure I would rather not know what some of you are doing).  There are a bazillion hard drives on the market, of all shapes and sizes and of course, prices.  Why settle for boring silver when you can have a pretty pink one?

Described as having a "high fashion look," it is pretty much a bumpy pink hard drive.  Small though, fits in the palm of your hand (considering your hands aren't the size of basketballs.)  Pink isn't your forte?   No problem.  It also comes in blue.  (What are you doing here?)

Seagate's Special Edition 6GB Pocket Hard Drive was specifically made to support Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.  10% of each sale goes towards the foundation.  It's small, it works, and it's pink.  And in case it doesn't work, it has a 1 year warranty.  Sweet.

Pexagon's Store-It Pro 2.5" 80GB - a Hi-Speed USB Portable Hard Drive to fit in your purse and hold all your precious files.  Aluminum design provides ultimate protection.  It's got a single-touch button to backup, and it isn't too hideous either.

Opinion: When Did RickRolling Jump the Shark?

Everywhere I go lately, I am hearing another story about someone being RickRoll'd. Not just individuals, but massive groups of people. Basketball games, the NY Mets.... Is it just me or is this losing it's edge? I think the whole phenomenon crossed the line the minute Perez Hilton RickRolled his readers.

In your opinion - when did RickRolling jump the shark?

Defend Yourself with a Lipstick Stun Gun

The first time I saw a stun gun masquerading as a tube of lipstick was at the International Spy Museum in Washington D.C. (very cool, if you haven't been, btw.) It was neither cute, nor available for sale. This one is not only much more realistic looking, but it's also less obvious than a Taser.

This Lipstick Stun Gun is only $49.95, 3" long, comes in your choice of pink, black or gold, and packs a ferocious 350,000 volts of "shock therapy."

Let's hope you'll never have to use this, but it's one solution for getting rid of any unwanted attention. Oh, and don't confuse it with your regular lipstick - ouch!
